First Trimester Screening & Anomaly Detection
NT measurement, nasal bone assessment, ductus venosus Doppler & early structural anomaly detection
Course Overview
This module provides a comprehensive grounding in first trimester ultrasound screening, combining the theoretical framework of combined screening with hands-on workshop practice. Participants will develop proficiency in nuchal translucency measurement to FMF standards, nasal bone assessment, and the integration of Doppler markers including ductus venosus and tricuspid regurgitation.
The course also covers early structural anomaly detection at 11–14 weeks, including cardiac screening, facial profile assessment, and the recognition of chromosomal markers. Participants will leave equipped to perform and report first trimester scans to international quality standards.
Learning Outcomes
- Perform NT measurement to FMF certification standards with documented quality metrics
- Assess nasal bone, ductus venosus, and tricuspid regurgitation as secondary markers
- Apply combined screening risk algorithms and interpret results in clinical context
- Identify early structural anomalies at 11–14 weeks including cardiac defects
- Counsel patients appropriately following first trimester screening results
- Document and report first trimester scans to international audit standards
